The more public celebrities become, the harder it is to think of them as real people. My ambition for Faith & Music was to find the personal stories and experiences that had inspired some of the biggest names behind our best loved popular music. I made two series of programmes for Faith & Music. One that stands out in my memory was R&B singer Beverley Knight. Nursing her best friend Tyrone Jamison through terminal AIDS was a turning point in Beverley’s life. When I interviewed her for the series she relived her all-consuming commitment to helping Tyrone – and the profound impact the experience had on her beliefs and music.
